THE CLUB-SURVEY

The CLUB conducts an on-going survey based on a new index methodology, providing for a deep qualitative analysis (as opposed to simply harvesting quantitative data).

We are trying to obtain a clear picture of the is-situation and a quarterly forecast on the market, both, from our Manufacturers and from our Sourcers. Members are asked if during the reporting period their incoming orders are dwindling, stagnating or growing.

RESULTS

Third Quarter 2024 [July – September]

Bottom Line ǀ Manufacturers

The feedback from Manufacturers differs significantly from country to country. North-African countries reported positive results while the central and eastern European region (including the Balkan) signalled a more tense situation. The trend ‘close to Europe’ can thus not entirely be maintained, also underlined by substantial activities recorded in Asian countries.

Bottom Line ǀ Sourcers

The mood amongst Sourcers has deteriorated during the last quarter of 2024, although the Christmas results have not been included in the survey. The CLUB hosts a majority of medium sized Sourcers that suffer from a stagnation in consumption for medium to higher priced products. It should be recognised, that the feedback from eight larger retailers suggests a different picture, as they record positive figures in terms of turnover and in terms of profit made.

Bottom Line

Stagnating consumption caused the European market to slow down. Small and medium sized brands and retailers find it hard to reach pre-pandemic levels. This trend is by and large reaching the manufacturers worldwide. However, recent news suggest that the order rounds accomplished were promising, the on-going trade fairs in Paris also send positive signals, suggesting a slight recovery of the market during the second quarter of 2025.
