THE CLUB-SURVEY

The CLUB conducts an on-going survey based on a new index methodology, providing for a deep qualitative analysis (as opposed to simply harvesting quantitative data).

We are trying to obtain a clear picture of the is-situation and a quarterly forecast on the market, both, from our Manufacturers and from our Sourcers. Members are asked if during the reporting period their incoming orders are dwindling, stagnating or growing.

RESULTS

First quarter 2025 [Januar-March]

Bottom Line ǀ Manufacturers

The feedback from Manufacturers differs significantly from country to country. North-African countries such as Morocco and Egypt reported positive results while the central and eastern European region (including the Balkan) signalled a more tense situation, especially with a view to increases in costs. Also the workwear segment is losing tempo, job losses in key sectors such as automotive reach the manufacturers.

Bottom Line ǀ Sourcers

The market situation is tense as consumption stagnates in most European countries. It appears that consumers are saving ressources with job expectations and thus confidence being at an all time low. It is difficult to predict a recovery although signals such as a controlled inflation may have a positive impact on the market.

Bottom Line

Stagnating consumption caused the European market to slow down. Small and medium sized brands and retailers find it hard to reach pre-pandemic levels. This trend is by and large reaching the manufacturers worldwide. Key to recovery is consumption which is closely related to consumer confidence and to an end to the sharp increases in prices.
